| I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley
of California, where I learned lighting from cirrus clouds on summer days
and winter tule fog. I got a degree in film production from San
Francisco State University, made many short films and worked in most
areas of film production before becoming a Director of Photography in
1985. I have photographed commercials, several features and music videos and lots of corporate, documentary and television shows for many big name companies. My work takes me all over the place, puts me in many wild situations and introduces me to many interesting people. One documentary that I photographed won an International Documentary Association award. Another was nominated for an Emmy. Short films have won prestigious festival awards. Several of the corporate pieces have won CINE Golden Eagle, Telly and ITVA Golden Vision awards. Commercials have won regional ad awards. Features have screened in festivals and been distributed theatrically and on cable. I have taught cinematography and filmmaking at the Academy of Art University and the Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco. I am a member of the International Cinematographers Guild (IATSE Local 600), am on the Industry Experience Roster and am a member of NABET Local 51. My family and I live in California; we hike the hills, bike the streets and cook a lot (I have a Strawberry-Apricot pie recipe that I am quite pleased with). |
